by: Jomar M. Marquez

PIKIT, COTABATO P (March 23, 2021) — The North Cotabato Composite Team Civil Society Organizations (NCCT-CSO) led the “Public Forum on GPH (Government of the Philippines) – MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) Peace Process” last March 11, 2021, at the gymnasium at Batulawan in this town.

With the tagline “Ang BARMM Ngayon at Bukas,” the said forum was intended to update the different sectors of the three clusters of Pikit about the progress of the peace accord implementation by the two parties.

The Area Coordinators of the three clusters attended the gathering. Present were the administrator of 63 Barangays, Kellie U. Antao, and the Director of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) to the Special Geographic Area, Zaiton Abas.

“Let us make our voices be heard together with the different CSOs and others for the call to the extension of the Bangsamoro Transition Period to fulfill what were agreed upon,” Antao said.

On the other hand, he also talked about the possible creation of two to three new municipalities, out of the three clusters of Pikit.

Abas highlighted the 44 Programs of the MILG citing that those are all for the good of the Bangsamoro Region.

“These initiatives focus on the improvement of the BARMM government, the administration, and the Bangsamoro people in general,” he added.

One of the Coordinators of Pikit, Prof. Jimmy Y. Adil, spoke about the changes brought by the establishment of Bangsamoro autonomous region.

“(From) Less to no more wars and conflicts,” Adil proudly said, as one of the changes the Bangsamoro people are enjoying at present.

He also reminded everyone that the coordinators are some of the people entrusted in bringing the BARMM closer to the people through its programs and services.

An Open Forum was also made where one of the concern is about the call for extension.

“The BARMM will be fine even without the extension of transition period. One of the things we are avoiding here is the hassle of election,” Antao explained.

NCCT- CSO is composed of different Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that were grouped together.
