COTABATO CITY (May 1, 2021) — The Asia Foundation (TAF) recognized the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) radio program “Mga Panduwan nu MBHTE” for its hard and outstanding impact in bridging learning communities in the Bangsamoro and Mindanao.

TAF awarded the MBHTE a certificate of recognition during the culminating activity of its project “PeaceConnect” held at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City on April 29-30, 2021.

Panduwan nu MBHTE was commended for restoring mutual trust in Mindanao trough People-to-People Engagement program.

In behalf of MBHTE Minister Mohagher Iqbal, Tu Alid Alfonso, focal person of Panduwan nu MBHTE, received the award along with other peace organizations in Mindanao who joined in the activity both in physical and through Zoom.

The radio program was aired for eight months from September to December last year and January to April this year over 92.1 Voice FM Cotabato in Cotabato City and in DXUP Teleradyo in Upi, Maguindanao.

Panduwan became the mouthpiece of the MBHTE in information dissemination of its programs and activities especially on Education Continuity Plan (ECP) this time of pandemic, discussing mental health. It also became the avenue for updating of the MBHTE’s schools division office on their activities and accomplishments.

To maximize the participation of Schools Divisions, the ministry has mobilized Teacher-Reporters in the nine (9) Schools Divisions of MBHTE and trained the volunteer reporters on broadcast journalism with the help of TAF Reverb capacity building program for radio broadcasters.

“Under the new normal, the landscape of education has changed in the country and in the Bangsamoro that affects the quality of education – face to face classes is restricted. With this situation, the MBHTE maximizes all platforms of communication to efficiently and effectively deliver the information needed by our education stakeholders,” said Panduwan nu MBHTE Focal Tu Alfonso.

The radio program was implemented in partnership with United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD) with the support from TAF through its Peace Connect Project.

Minister Iqbal has always emphasized the importance of communication and information dissemination in the education sector in order to hear the voice of the public and communicate to them our response, objectives and visions.
