COTABATO CITY/DECEMBER 1, 2018 – Students of University of Southern Mindanao (USM) attended the Forum on Understanding the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) and Preventing Violent Extremism organized by the United Youth for Peace and Development, Inc. (UNYPAD) on November 30, 2018 at USM campus.
The President of the UNYPAD, Dr. Rahib L. Kudto, shared briefly all about the organization as well as the rationale of the program.
The first speaker was Atty. Haron S. Meling, Executive Assistant of the Peace Implementing Panel, who discussed the salient points of the BOL. He said, “The BOL is not a perfect law but it is a good stepping stone in the establishment of the Bangsamoro Government that would address the long time problem in the Bangsamoro homeland.”
Another timely and interesting topic was given by Morsidin Husain, Secretary of Research and Information Development Committee and member of UNYPAD Executive Council. He gave Inputs on Violent Extremism and Radicalism. He emphasized that part of the objective of the BOL is to stop the proliferation of terrorism.
Also present during the forum was Lt. Col. Niel Roldan from 7th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army. He encouraged the Bangsamoro people particularly the youths to support the BOL because even them as member of the Philippine Army, they are supportive and pushing for the BOL.
The last part of the program was an open forum wherein the participants were given opportunity to ask questions and/or clarifications.
