North Cotabato town vice mayor shot; motive still unknown

January 12, 2013 News: The vice mayor of Kabacan town in North Cotabato was killed by an unidentified gunman at around 2:45 p.m. January 11, a report by Luwaran said.

Policronio Dulay, the vice mayor of Kabacan, North Cotabato, suffered multiple gunshot wounds from a .45 caliber pistol and was rushed to the Kabacan Medical Specialist where he died before arrival.

The report stated that Dulay who had just left MC Square after buying some grocery items along USM Avenue in the Poblacion when the suspect shot him at close range, hitting him in many parts of his body.

The suspects are still unknown up to this moment, including the motive for the killing.

However, one analyst in the town said politics cannot be ruled out since Philippine elections are very divisive and confrontational.

Dulay was the running mate of Kabacan Mayor George Tan under the Liberal Party in the May 13 elections, and he was against Datumaido Sultan, an independent candidate.

Dulay, who helped many Moros during the harsh days of Martial Law, was on his second term as vice mayor.
