April 3, 2013: The UNYPAD led by President Rahib Kudto briefed the IC Net Limited Officer for Community Development Assistant, Mr.Yukitoshi Matsumoto, on its on-going activities during his recent visit to the UNYPAD national office in Cotabato City.
Mr. Matsamuto is in Cotabato City to solicit ideas from different organizations that have experiences in handling community development programs in the conflict-affected areas in Mindanao like UNYPAD, among others. He was particularly interested in the issues and challenges met along the way by the organizations in the implementation of their programs and activities so that the lessons drawn from it can be used as basis for formulating their strategies and approaches.
The Community Development Program in the Conflict-Affected Areas in Mindanao is currently undertaken by the IC Net Limited together with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Office of the Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) and the local government unit of Sultan Mastura in Maguindanao Province.
In particular, the IC Net Limited’s program is to capacitate the BDA and the participating MLGU on program management. The endeavor in Sultan Mastura Municipality is a pilot project aimed at encouraging the participation of the MNLF, MILF, IP’s, the traditional leaders whether Muslims or Christians and the community, according to Mr. Matsamuto.
In a related development, two young international researchers made a study of the UNYPAD’s peace building and conflict mitigation programs to substantiate their work on the “Theory of Change” as requirements for their doctoral degree.
They are particularly keen on the kind of research methodology called ‘hybrid’.
The UNYPAD had untaken a serious study on celebrated cases of conflict (rido) in 2007 which is part of the published book of the Asia Foundation titled “RIDO” compiled by Mr. Wilfredo M. Torres III.
