UNYPAD chapters hold series of Symposia in Moro communities

COTABATO City (July 29, 2013) – The latest community Ramadhan symposium of the UNYPAD chapter with a theme “Strengthening Leadership through Youth Empowerment” was jointly organized by Hadji Saidona Pendatun Foundation College, Inc. and the Cluster 3 of Maguindanao chapter held at the GSKP Gymnasium on July 24 attended by hundreds of participants from different places.

Akmad Musa, UNYPAD Maguindanao Cluster 3 President, said that the community symposium on Ramadhan was facilitated by the school administration, UNYPAD GSKP chapter and community leaders including the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) political committee.

“The main topics were Significance of Ramadhan and updates of the newly signed annex on wealth sharing by the GPH and MILF Peace Panel in Kuala Lumphur, Malaysia,” Musa disclosed.

“Ustadz Nuru-alam Abdullah was the main speaker to this event,” he added.

In UNYPAD national office, the Director of the Coordinating and Development Office on Bangsamoro Youth Affairs, ARMM, Anwar Upahm, sponsored free iftar and a free sahur. An input on Ramadhan was part of the program in the midnight in which Ustadz Nasrudin Musa and Faisal Dacungan were invited as guest speakers.

Upahm is currently the National Vice President for External Affairs of UNYPAD.

On the other hand, the UNYPAD municipal chapter of Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao and the Pidsandawan Elementary School headed by its School Principal Ma’am Jukra U. Maulana also conducted a community symposium on July 18 with a theme “Refresh Significance of Ramadhan to Muslim Believers.”

School Principal Maulana said, “This is a second time that we have conducted symposium in our school but the uniqueness of this affair is that the update on GPH-MILF negotiation is part of the program.”

Datuan M. Magon, the Deputy Secretary General of the UNYPAD, shared an updates on the newly concluded annex on wealth sharing between the government of the Philippines and the MILF while Ustadz Suharto Abdulradzak Mamengkog, a member of UNYPAD, gave input on the importance of Ramadhan.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Maguindanao School District Supervisor representative also graced the activity.

The same day, in the afternoon, the community of Barangay Malibpolok requested the UNYPAD national chapter delegation and hold similar activity to the barangay. The Barangay Council of the said community thanked the leadership of UNYPAD for a quick positive response to their request.

The UNYPAD national chapter team who went to municipality of Rajah Buayan was Tu Alid Alfonso, National Vice President for Internal Affairs of UNYPAD, Datuan M. Magon and Ustadz Mamengkog. They proceeded to Barangay Dimaampao, Datu Abdullah Sangki, Maguindanao in the afternoon before the breaking of fast.

The road entering Barangay Dimaampao was not so good causing the UNYPAD national chapter team vehicle (an off-road) stranded for almost an hour in one of Dimaampao’s Sitios. The villagers had helped in removing the vehicle out from a muddy road.

After the “Taraweeh,” a prayer after Eisha (7pm) prayer, the program started and ended at 2am in Barangay Dimaampao.

The whole communities extended their thanks and gratitude to UNYPAD for reaching these far flung villages for the purpose of sharing knowledge on Ramadhan and updates on the peace process.

Meantime, the UNYPAD North Cotabato chapter submitted their request to the Office of National Da’wah and Education for a series of scheduled Community Symposia to their communities in Kabacan and Pikit in North Cotabato, and Pagalungan, Maguindanao. (UNYPAD News)
