COTABATO CITY / April 15, 2018 – In preparation for the coming of the Holy Month of Ramadhan, the UNYPAD Committee on Dawah and Education came up with a plan to hold “Mother Symposium” that is aimed to educate around 350 officers of UNYPAD on the “Do’s and Don’ts” and benefits of fasting.
The said Committee concreted the plan in a breakfast meeting on Tuesday (April 10) held at the UNYPAD National Office in Purok Pinnen, Rosales Street RH-6 Cotabato City.
Ustadz Abuhurair Silongan, chair of the Dawah and Education Committee, said they agreed that the symposium should be conducted before and in the early days of Ramadhan and even in the last part of the holy month of sacrifice to teach the Muslim believers on things that nullify their fasting which should be avoided.
Ramadhan 1439 in the Hijra calendar is expected to start on May 15 and end by June 14. The sighting of the new moon marks the beginning and the ending of Ramadhan.
Fasting during this holy month is one of the five pillars of Islam. Muslims who are in good health and sound mind are obliged to fast during Ramadhan.
Silongan said their decision to hold the symposium in the proposed schedule is based on the lessons learned after thorough assessment of past Ramadhan activities.
“We found out that the activities we conducted were mostly held in the last part of Ramadhan instead of doing those in the early part,” he explained.
The Secretary General of the UNYPAD Yusoph Lumambas said the target participants of the symposium are UNYPAD officers coming from the nearest ten (10) provincial chapters such as Cotabato City, North Cotabato cluster 1, 2 and 3, Maguindanao cluster 1, 2 and 3, Sultan Kudarat, General Santos City and coastal Lanao.
“It is optional for those coming from farthest chapters to join the said activity,” he said.
It was also agreed that the tentative date will be on May 9, 2018 and the venue will be in Grand Masjid located at Barangay Datu Balabaran, Cotabato City, which is also among the tourist destination in Central Mindanao.
Lumambas disclosed that the topic to be discussed will be the do’s and don’ts, significance and health benefits of fasting during Ramadhan, and other related subject matters.
In order to maximise the activity, he said updates on the Bangsamoro peace process will also be conveyed during the symposium.
“This symposium would be the venue of UNYPAD officers to have effective and efficient conduct of activity during Ramadhan and also to exercise the saying of the Prophet Mohamad (Peace be upon him) that ‘Expressing happiness and joys in the advent of holy month is part of worship’,” said Silongan.
Silongan added, “The proposed program serves as advance celebration for the most awaited month of the Muslim ummah in the world.”
