PAGALUNGAN, Maguindanao (October 6, 2015) – Community leaders and representatives from the Philippine National Police attended the 3-day training on Community Security Workshop conducted at Barangay Layog, Pagalungan, Maguindanao on September 29 – October 1, 2015 by the United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD) in partnership with the Conciliation Resources (C-R) with financial support from the European Union (EU).
Ustadz Amil L. Kudto discussed the Islamic Concept of consultation, community security and safety.
Paul Adolfo of C-R discussed Concepts in Community Policing & Community-led Safety Design & Mechanisms run through the existing policies on community participation in security sector, women’s participation in security and peace, which is run through facilitating group discussions and community consultations approaches and techniques.
Highlight of the training was the formation of the Community Security Working Group (CSWG) and planning of 1-year activities facilitated by Datuan Magon, Bantay Security Network (BSN) General Coordinator and is currently the UNYPAD Deputy Secretary – General.
“Barangay Layog is the identified pilot site of UNYPAD for Community Security and Community Policing,” Magon pointed out.
“With a population of more than three thousand, residents of Layog have been very active in supporting the peace process,” he added.
Magon also said that barangay is also a former beneficiary of an EU-funded project under the Mindanao Action for Peace and Development (MAPAD) programme, which was implemented from July 2007 to July 2010. (UNYPAD News)
