March 22, 2013: Mr. Gabriel C. Palma is the new Chapter President of the United Youth for Peace and Development, Inc. for Davao City. He was previously assigned as Regional Coordinator for Greater Davao Region in the mid of 2009 until the first quarter of 2013. He served under the Office of the National Vice President for Internal Affairs of UNYPAD.
Palma became instrumental also in the organization of the Moro youth in the Province of Compostela Valley that eventually became the UNYPAD chapter in the said province. Through the UNYPAD-Davao City, Mr. Palma led peace activities together with various communities to show support to the historic signing of the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB) between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front on October 15 last year. Many sectors were involved in the “Mass Rally for Peace” held at the Freedom Park of Davao City, among them were the Moro and non-Moro communities, civil societies, the non-government organizations, peace advocates, and the military.
The objective of the activities said the UNYPAD National President, Rahib L. Kudto, is “to strengthen the UNYPAD chapters nationwide in the implementation of its five major programs, namely: organizing, youth development, community empowerment, research and information, campaign and advocacy on disaster management in order to prepare the youth of their role in the Bangsamoro New Political Entity”.
The UNYPAD National Vice President for Internal Affairs, Tu Alid Alfonso, reminded the new officers of every chapter that the authority that goes with their respective position is immaterial, it is their dedication and commitment to the organization that counts in the bigger quest for genuine self – determination by the Moro people. .
During the Davao City meeting of the UNYPAD March 10 at Ecoland Mosque, several issues were attended to and tackled, among them are: the Sabah Stand-off, renewal of commitment by the new chapter officers to the organization, orientation on the rationale and objectives of the activity, and the presentation of accomplishment reports. The attendees to the affair are: delegates from the Office of the National Vice President for Internal Affairs of Tu A. Alfonso, Office of the Secretary General Yusoph S. Lumambas and his Deputy for Administration, Datuan M. Magon Jr., members of Davao City Chapter Executive Officers and the Women’s Affairs Committee (WAC).
Those who failed to attend the meeting wrote letters of excuses to the National Executive Office headed by Mr. Kudto.
The new officers of UNYPAD- Davao City are: Mr. Gabriel C. Palma as President, Mr. Jorum D. Onsing as Vice President for Internal Affairs, Mr. Johnny Casasawan as Vice President for External Affairs, Mr. Abdulmajid Camama as Secretary and, Ms. Silfah P. Sacar, as Chairwoman.
Chapters established by the UNYPAD-Davao City are in Barangay Bangkal Muslim Village and Ma-a (1st District), also Barangay Waan, Tigato, Mandog and Bunawan (2nd District), and Barangay Sirawan (3rd District).
Mr. Palma also met his co-officers right after the meeting and discussed their plans and programs.
