BULUAN, Maguindanao/January 30 – In able to give various stakeholders of Maguindanao updates on the status of the peace process between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD) Maguindanao-3 hosted a forum held at Mahad Tahfidz Al-Qur-anil Kareem, Poblacion, Buluan, Maguindanao on Sunday (Jan 28).
There were 218 individuals from different towns of the province who attended the event which was spearheaded by officers and members of UNYPAD chapters in the towns of Gen. Salipada Pendatun, Buluan and Paglat.
Lawyer Haron Meling, the Executive Secretary of Commissioner Mohagher Iqbal of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC), was the resource person who briefly oriented the audiences about the history of Bangsamoro struggle, the status of the peace process and the challenges that have to be hurdled.
The speaker encouraged the young audiences to study hard citing that the struggle shall continue and it is the Moro youth who shall take place what the elders have started.
Meling said should the peace process turns positive, “The gains of the struggle will be reaped by the youth,” he pointed out.
He shared the chronology of the peace talks which started in 1996 and noted that only President Duterte acknowledged the historical injustices committed against the Bangsamoro people. “The peace talk status is still unresolved but bit by bit it becomes productive,” Meling said.
The speaker detailed some challenges of the peace process such as military command and police power in the proposed Bangsamoro political entity being questioned by some lawmakers.
Meling related the remark of the MILF Chief on the issue who stated that “This is not new because it was already in the present provision of RA 9054 which established the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) like military command and police power, these exist and they just copied some provisions of the ARMM.”
The participants were thankful to UNYPAD for initiating the activity. Present in the occasion were the Provincial officers and Municipal Chairmen from the Municipality of Buluan and General Salipada K. Pendatun, Paglat and the Women Affairs Committee all in Province of Magunidanao
In his welcome remarks, Sheikh Yosuph Lantong, the principal of the Madrasah, urged the Moro youth to learn the Bangsamoro Basic Law and its status.
Akmad S. Musa UNYPAD Provincial Chairman Maguindanao-3, also briefly explained the UNYPAD, its objectives, programs and services.
“UNYPAD perspective on youth is not on age but focus on developing the youth in becoming a competitive and God fearing citizens. Hence you have observed some of the UNYPAD officers are above the age of youth,” he said.
Musa said, “This organization, UNYPAD, look like a mobile university where you can gain more knowledge on it.”
To further orient the audiences about UNYPAD, Ustadz Zuharto Mamengkog disclosed the history and development of the organization which has expanded in the whole country and currently has 25 provincial chapters.
The organizers also took the opportunity to select and set up new chapter officers of UNYPAD.
The selected chairman in Mahad Tahfidz Al-Qur-anil Kareem was Chairman Nasrollah Abdullah and Chairwoman Guiarea Antingan both professionals and the same time students of the said Madrasah (Arabic School).
Mangatong further urged the selected officers to implement the programs and services of UNYPAD. He expressed support and welcomed the presence of the organization in their Madrasah.
The program started and ended with the recitation of the verses of the Holy Qur-an done by Al Hafidh Mohammiden Ebrahim.
