DATU PAGLAS, Maguindanao (April 19, 2015) – On Friday, April 10, some members of United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD)-Datu Paglas Chapter helped residents in firefighting to prevent a fire from affecting other houses near a rural bank in the town market of Datu Paglas, Maguindanao.
“At about 10:00PM, the fire was noticed by the civilians near eatery or carinderia,” says May-Ann, one of the residents affected by the blaze.
“The fire could hardly be put out because the houses are closed to each other and made of light materials that it spread so fast,” she added.
Datu Paglas UNYPAD Chapter OIC-Chairman Taharudin Lumapinet, said “We immediately responded to the area where a blaze was taking place after receiving information from civilians that many houses had already been affected.”
“We organized the by-standers to help and participate in stopping the fire from escalation,” he said.
At around 11pm the fire trucks arrived. The first fire truck was from Buluan Fire Station and then followed by a fire truck from Tulunan municipality and another one from Tacurong City, Taharudin said.
It was found out in the following morning that there were 103 houses razed to ground. The Red Cross and DSWD Maguindanao Province extended relief goods to the affected families.
Currently, the affected residents are now temporary sheltered at the Purok Pag-Asa, Poblacion, while others are staying with their relatives.
