UNYPAD AIPPWB Project Team, CRS & IMAN meet Bangsamoro Women’s Commission Chairperson

COTABATO CITY (August 13, 2021) – The United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD) of Advancing Inclusion and Political Participation of Women in the BARMM (AIPPWB) Project Team together with the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Integrated Mindanaons for Natives (IMAN) held a meeting with Member of the Parliament (MP) Bainon Karon, Chairperson of the Bangsamoro Women Commission (BWC), on August 12, 2021.
The meeting was spearheaded by the CRS partner Technical Advisory II Myla J. Leguro and two project coordinators from the implementing partners namely Melia S. Ukom of UNYPAD and Dhats Dagadas from IMAN.

Ukom laid down all the series of upcoming activities to be conducted in Upi, South Upi and Datu Blas Sinsuat (DBS) targeting 150 women leaders from the said towns of Maguindanao.

On his part, Dagadas laid down the same plan of activities to Special Geographic Areas in BARMM particularly in Pigcawayan, North Cotabato, and the 4 barangay’s in Kabacan such as Pedtad, Buluan, Nangan, and Sanggadong.

The meeting aimed to seek technical advice from the BWC about the Regional Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (RAPWPS), political agenda of women leaders and addressing Gender and Development (GAD) issues.

MP Bainon Karon expressed gladness on the project as it would help her office to reach and penetrate on the ground specifically when it comes to promoting GAD.

“This will make us easier to go and penetrate the grassroots, educate about BARMM, BWC, RAPWPS, the GAD and other program of BARMM when it comes to women,” she said.
She added, “We hope that you could share with us your data upon reaching this 300 women leaders.”

The 4 organization were in unison to help the project activities in advancing women leaders on their common interest through involving in the local government functionalities.

MP Karon made sure that in the upcoming political leadership training of IMAN and UNYPAD, she will delegate a BWC representative to help the team discuss the relevant laws and mandates pertaining to women political participation and inclusion.
