GENERAL SANTOS CITY — The United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD) – General Santos City (GenSan) Chapter helped in serving “Gift of Iftar” from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Saudi Arabia King Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud last April 5 at the Badtigan Masjid, Barangay Fatima, this City.
Around 200 members of the village received the free iftar facilitated by UNYPAD GenSan Chapter as part of its activities during the holy month of Ramadhan.
Sheikh Umer Kalimbol, an Islamic Missionary, imparted a short lecture highlighting the virtues of Ramadhan which are the fear to the Almighty, patience and discipline.
He underscored the need for the Muslims to internalize the essence of fasting that is to protect Muslims from sin and he urged them to sustain in the whole year the practices during this holy month.
Fasting during Ramadhan is one of the five pillars of Islam. Muslims refrain from eating, drinking and engaging in sexual acts from dawn till sunset.
Praying Taraweeh and Tahajud, giving charity, sharing foods to the needy, repenting, and meditating are among the recommended deeds during Ramadhan.
UNYPAD GenSan has lined up activities such as holding Muhadharah, serving Iftar to depressed Muslim community and distributing Ramadhan Unyfood Express spearheaded by its Women’s Affairs Committee.
